Community Stories
Leandra Salley, MSW
(Director)
I began graduate school aiming to become a school social worker, but during my internship with individuals in recovery, I discovered my true passion for connecting people with the resources they need. Even as a child, my parents say I was always finding ways to help others. When the pandemic hit, I saw how children were struggling with grief and isolation, and I was alarmed by rising self-harm reports. In response, I wrote Big Boys Don’t Cry and All the Bees Buzz to help adults support kids in opening up about their feelings. These books serve as tools to start important conversations. Now, as director of GFO, I’m focused on building community partnerships to connect youth and those who serve them with critical information and support. I’m committed to spending my life putting my best Fruit forward.
